Weekly Adult Acting Classes

A Letter from the Studio Founder

The foundation of our work comes through a direct lineage from Sanford Meisner himself. My teacher, Andrew Benne, studied under Edward Kaye-Martin, who was a student of Meisner. This means the tools you are learning at Boise Acting Studio are part of a living tradition—grounded in Meisner’s original work and passed down through generations of dedicated teachers and working actors.

This lineage is not about learning “tricks” or shortcuts to acting. It is about cultivating authenticity, emotional truth, and freedom in the moment. The work asks you to be present, available, and deeply engaged with your partner and your inner life—on and off the stage. Our training is best described as Hybrid Meisner. While Meisner’s work forms the backbone of our curriculum, the approach here is also informed by other great practitioners of the craft, including Uta Hagen, Konstantin Stanislavski, Stella Adler, and the legendary filmmaker John Cassavetes. These influences deepen the work by expanding an actor’s relationship to imagination, circumstance, physical life, and personal responsibility within the scene—while always returning to the essential Meisner principle of living truthfully, moment to moment.

At Boise Acting Studio, our training is rooted in three guiding principles: Actor’s Faith, Emotional Preparation, and Moment-to-Moment Work. Through the early stages of the curriculum, students build the foundation of the craft—public solitude, inner life, destination, and the reality of doing. From there, we expand into improvised scene work as a way to help you develop a deeply personal emotional preparation process. Ultimately, this work is brought to text, where you learn to analyze material while remaining free, responsive, and alive within the scene.

Consistency is imperative to your growth as an actor. Each week of training builds on the last, and your presence in class matters—not only for your own development, but for your scene partners as well. Our studio motto is “Commit to your craft.”

Boise Acting Studio is not a drop-in, casual environment. This work requires discipline, consistency, and a genuine investment in your training. We expect students to come to class prepared, to complete assignments thoughtfully, and to approach the work with seriousness and respect—for themselves, their peers, and the craft. Those who are willing to commit fully will find this studio to be a place of profound growth.

In the audit, you will observe a full class, get to participate in the warm-up and have some time to chat with the instructor to see if this work is a good fit for you. You can schedule your free audit with Abigail at boiseactingstudioassistant@gmail.com

NEW Payment System If you are having any difficulties with the new system, please email April.

Notify your instructor, scene partner, and Abigail by email if you will be missing class. Texting, while helpful to communicate delays or sudden emergencies, makes it difficult to track absences. Keep it simple: send one email to your instructor, the BAS assistant, and scene partner. You likely have their email if you look at your most recent assignment email. Here are our emails:

(Abigail) boiseactingstudioassistant@gmail.com

(April) boiseactingstudio@gmail.com

You will only be offered the opportunity for a make-up class if your absence is noted at least 48hrs in advance.

Give 1 month notice if you will not be continuing classes. We need to be able to plan accordingly for fluctuating numbers. Please be looking ahead to know if you will need to drop class for some time.

Drop-In is $65 Please give us at least a 3 day notice so that your instructor can give you an assignment.

  • Our History

The Meisner Hybrid curriculum was developed by Andrew Benne, the artistic director and master teacher at Los Angeles Acting Studio in San Diego. It was an evolution that began in various studios where Mr. Benne taught throughout Los Angeles since the 1980s.

  • The Work

Here at Boise Acting Studio, we are a Meisner Hybrid training center for adult actors of all levels. With a foundation in The Meisner Technique, the curriculum is also heavily influenced by the disciplines of Uta Hagen, Stella Adler, Eric Morris, and the legendary filmmaker John Cassavetes.

  • The Classes
